Prefabricated roof truss
The prefabricated house in reinforced concrete technology MABUDO ECO also has a prefabricated roof truss, which complements the complete prefabrication system. The commonly used type of roof truss is a traditional rafter truss, the type and type of which depend on the dimensions of the building, the purpose of the attic and the geometry of the house. However, more and more often you can find prefabricated roofs, which are delivered to the construction site as ready-to-assemble elements that do not require additional processing. What are prefabricated roof trusses and is it a better solution than others currently on the market?
What is a prefabricated truss?
A prefabricated truss is a truss made of truss trusses manufactured in a factory from high-quality certified C24 wood. A prefabricated truss consists of trusses, braces, and extensions, which are designed for a specific building. Such a truss may have a usable attic or loft according to the specific arrangements of the Investor. The structure of the truss itself consists of upper chords, most often gable chords, and a lower chord, constituting a substructure for the attic or loft floor. Elements manufactured in the factory, developed in accordance with the design, arrive at the construction site ready for assembly using a crane, which is within the scope of the contractor of the assembly works. Properly coordinated assembly works of prefabricated buildings in MABUDO ECO® technology mean that assembly works take place in the right order without unnecessary downtime. The contractor is responsible for the correct execution and assembly of the prefabricated truss on a given building.
How is a prefabricated roof truss made?
In order to properly design a prefabricated truss, the Investor must provide the necessary information, including:
• building design including roof slope design,
• location of construction, due to climatic loads, to take into account loads such as wind and snow,
• type of roof covering and additional loads on the roof from devices such as photovoltaics, heat recovery, etc.
The trusses are made of certified C24 class wood, kiln dried and four-sided planed. Such wood processing protects the wood biologically and against fire. At the Investor’s request, additional impregnation can be performed. All truss elements are connected with each other using spike plates measured during design work. Elements for the production of trusses are cut on precise devices and connected in the factory.
The cost of purchasing a prefabricated roof truss
Much depends on individual factors, including the size and shape of the roof. However, because these are ready-to-assemble elements, there is no need to reach for additional supplies, as is the case with traditional solutions developed on the construction site. It is estimated that 20 to 30% less raw material is used to prepare trusses in the factory than in the case of their production on the construction site.
Other benefits associated with the use of ready-made trusses are also worth emphasizing. First of all, we do not have to pour a concrete ceiling, because the lower strips take over its function (also with a developed attic). In addition, the assembly of the truss itself is noticeably faster.
What are the advantages of a prefabricated roof truss?
Time savings resulting from the use of a prefabricated roof truss are one of its greatest advantages, but definitely not the only one. The advantages of this solution also include the lightness of the structure, which contributes to its lower wear. Durability is also influenced by the use of high-quality Swedish spruce wood in the production process, which is characterized by particularly high resistance to deformation and other negative factors.
It should also be noted that prefabricated roof trusses are more stable, which, in combination with designed bracing, stiffen the roof structure. Precise processing of the raw material to the requirements of a specific building performed using specialist equipment reduces dimensional tolerances, and the connections made are solid and perfectly fitted. Thanks to their specific structure, connections with nail plates are much less susceptible to any stresses, which cannot be said about glues or nails used in traditional roof trusses. The use of an antifungal protective layer, on the other hand, extends the life of the presented solution and allows to minimize maintenance costs.
Prefabricated trusses can be shaped almost freely. For many years, they were only available in a triangular shape, but modern technologies allow you to create single-pitched and double-pitched roofs, hipped roofs, and many other forms. This means that even the most complex projects can be implemented using ready-made trusses. The versatility of the product is also worth noting – a prefabricated roof truss is perfect not only for the construction of relatively small single-family houses, but also much larger, multi-storey buildings, including hotels, offices, warehouses or public institution buildings.
Roof truss – traditional or prefabricated?
Therefore, the lightness of the structure, savings in the use of individual materials, more durable solutions, faster assembly, high quality of the material used are the most important advantages of prefabricated roof trusses. The use of this type of roof as a complement to the prefabricated system significantly speeds up the construction process. Constructions are carried out cleanly and do not generate a large amount of waste and pollution. Therefore, traditional roof trusses are increasingly giving way to prefabricated modern roof systems.
