MABUDO precast concrete homes comfortably exceed the WT 2021 requirements and achieve better energy performance than most brick-and-mortar houses. ECO® walls have a heat transfer coefficient of U = 0.147 W/m²K, and ROBUST® walls U = 0.14–0.23 W/m²K. Thanks to carefully engineered details (such as window installation), MABUDO's prefabrication technology reduces thermal bridging and improves the building's airtightness and thermal stability. A MABUDO house means an ECO wall with U = 0.147 W/m²K – better than the required 0.20 – and a structure that holds on to its required parameters over time.
WT 2021 – How Energy Efficient Does a House Have to Be to Get Built?
WT 2021 stands for the Technical Requirements for buildings and their siting – the Polish regulation that sets, among other things, the maximum energy consumption for a new single-family home. Since January 2021 it has imposed the strictest energy-efficiency requirements to date. To get a building permit, a design has to meet, among other things, the EP (primary energy) indicator, which can't exceed 70 kWh/m² per year. For comparison, back in 2014 the allowed EP value was 120 kWh/m² – a huge shift.
Primary energy (EP) is the amount of non-renewable energy that has to be extracted from nature (e.g. coal, gas, oil) to supply a house with heat, ventilation, hot water, and other needs. The indicator also accounts for losses during generation, transmission, and storage. The higher the share of renewable sources (e.g. photovoltaics), the lower the EP value – and the easier it is to meet WT 2021.
For an investor, that means well-insulated walls, airtight, highly insulating windows, and ideally mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. Heat pumps and photovoltaics are increasingly becoming a necessity, not an option. WT 2021 is the baseline level of energy efficiency – the minimum we start from. And MABUDO's concrete prefabrication naturally goes further.
MABUDO ECO® – Two-Layer Wall
This is an advanced 36.25 cm layered wall in which thermal insulation, the load-bearing structure, and a plasterboard frame form one coherent system with U = 0.147 W/m²K. The whole assembly is engineered to eliminate the risk of a dew point forming inside the wall, and with it the risk of condensation. MABUDO ECO also gives you: an impact-resistant facade made of durable reinforced concrete; freedom to route electrical wiring before any interior fit-out (no need to chase or chisel the walls); and an open-plan interior (partition walls can be arranged to suit your needs, as long as they don't touch load-bearing elements).
Wall layers: L-shaped concrete, 5 + 18 cm graphite EPS, timber battens, vapour barrier and plasterboard.
MABUDO ROBUST® – Three-Layer Wall
Solid, tough, and very well insulated – the choice for anyone who wants maximum durability and resilience. It consists of a reinforced-concrete architectural/facade layer, an insulation layer, and a load-bearing reinforced-concrete structural layer. U ≈ 0.14–0.23 W/m²K – comfortably beats the standard's requirements. Ideal for heavier loads or multi-story buildings.
Why Does Prefabrication Make It Easier to Meet WT 2021?
WT 2021 demands control over energy use, heat loss, and airtightness – and concrete prefabrication is built exactly to hold those parameters. First, the insulation is part of the precast element itself: it isn't glued on site or cut “by eye” – it's built into the wall panel at the factory, which lowers the risk of thermal bridging. Second, precision: the elements are cast in steel molds accurate to the millimeter, with no crooked walls or gaps. Third, process control: the entire structure is built in a closed, repeatable environment.
Fourth, lossless assembly: the finished elements fit together like a system – fast and repeatable. Fifth, the design is built with airtightness in mind from the start: we optimize the layout of walls, joints, and details already at the architectural and structural stage. The result? A MABUDO house doesn't just scrape past WT 2021 – it clears the bar with a safe margin, whether you're building a modern barn house, a compact bungalow, or a villa with an attic.
How Do Wall Parameters Translate Into Lower Bills?
A low U-value combined with high airtightness has a real financial effect – one investors notice as early as their first heating season:
- the heat pump runs for shorter periods and at lower power,
- the house holds a stable temperature even in severe frost,
- heat loss is lower than in traditional brick construction,
- the EP energy demand is significantly below the WT requirement,
- a PV installation covers a larger share of annual consumption.
FAQ – energy efficiency of precast concrete houses and WT 2021
Does a MABUDO precast concrete house meet WT 2021?
Yes. Every MABUDO design meets the WT 2021 requirements, and the ECO® and ROBUST® walls achieve U-values better than the minimum values set out in the regulations.
What are the parameters of MABUDO's prefabricated walls?
The MABUDO ECO® wall has U = 0.147 W/m²K – significantly better than the WT 2021 requirement (≤ 0.20 W/m²K for new buildings). The MABUDO ROBUST® wall reaches U = 0.14–0.23 W/m²K, depending on the insulation thickness.
Does concrete prefabrication really reduce thermal bridging?
Yes. The insulation is built into the wall panel at the factory, which eliminates the typical installation errors seen on brick construction sites. In addition, the window and door installation detail removes thermal bridges.
Is a precast house airtight?
Concrete prefabrication achieves high airtightness thanks to factory precision and repeatable joints. That translates into stable energy performance all year round.
Is a precast house cheaper to heat?
Yes. A better U-value and lower heat loss mean investors see real bills that are lower than in brick houses of a similar size.
Is MABUDO's concrete prefabrication suited to heat pumps and photovoltaics?
Yes. MABUDO's technology is designed around modern heat sources, including heat pumps. High airtightness and good insulation increase the efficiency of renewable energy installations.
